Every night when I go to bed I like to read a few pages of a good business book.
Business books (and the occasional cookery book) are the only things I read nowadays and I’ve read a fair few.
In this blog post I’m going to reveal my top 5 business books for those of you who like a good read.

Number 1
The Four Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris
I read this on holiday in Majorca in 2009. It was probably my most enjoyable read ever and I was gutted when I finished it. Aside from being an enjoyable read, I learned a huge deal from it as well.
It reveals how you can set up a business and automate or delegate as many tasks as possible so you can work less and live life more. Plus, if you’re an employee, it shares strategies to enable you to be in the office less, complete your tasks quicker and spend more time doing what you love with the people you love.
I can’t recommend this book enough and it’s been updated since I bought it with an extra 100 pages of case studies and the best posts from the 4 Hour Work Week Blog. I purchased the updated version too.
This is such a good book and I think I might start reading this again tonight!

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
I read this one on holiday in Turkey last Summer (I read a LOT while on holiday!) Again, I was hugely disappointed when I finished this book, but more so due to the fact that it was the last of my three books and I still had three days left to go!
The author, Robert Kiyosaki, began by sharing stories of his two Dad’s (it was actually his Dad and his friends Dad). His Dad (poor Dad) had a secure job and earned a decent wage and always taught Robert to “go to school and get a secure job”. His friends Dad (rich Dad) was a college dropout and self-made millionaire.
Rich Dad, Poor Dad is all about what rich dad taught Robert about managing money to become financially free and independent.
It took me a while to get into this book, but once it did, I really loved it and I think you will, too.

Problogger – Secrets To Blogging Your Way To A Six Figure Income by Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett
I read this earlier on in the year and absolutely loved it. If you want to earn a full time income by blogging about things you love then you need to get this book.
It provides the technical info to enable you to set up your blog, it reveals how to write quality blog posts that get read, how to earn income from your blog, how to promote and market your blog to generate traffic and how to use social media to generate hordes of traffic. It even has case studies and the secrets of successful niche blogs.
It’s written by the guys behind some of the most popular blogs on the internet – Problogger.com and Digital-Photography-School.com. They know how to create money making blogs and if that’s something you want to do then you should get their book.

Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert Cialdini
I started reading this really because I had to, not because I wanted to – but once I started I got hooked and loved it. And I learned a huge amount that I have applied in all aspects of my online business.
I initially started reading it because I was in the process of applying to different universities and I needed to write a personal statement. A personal statement is essentially supposed to sell yourself to the uni so they offer you a place. My school always suggested that you should include details of a few books that you’ve read on your chosen subject to help you stand out from the rest. Since I was applying for a Psychology degree I decided to pick up a copy of Robert Cialdini’s Influence.
It reveals his six “weapons of influence” that strongly increase your chances of getting someone to do something you want them to do (like buying your eBook, perhaps?)
It’s great how he uses so many case studies and examples from the real world to help you understand how to apply it yourself. In fact, I’ve applied every single one of his strategies, and while I can’t track the success, I’d suggest it’s made a HUGE difference to my income.
(Oh, and in my first year at uni, we were asked to write a 3,000 word essay on Social Influence which I aced because of that book!)

Number 5
Losing My Virginity by Richard Branson
This is slightly different. It’s Richard Branson’s autobiography, and while it does contain some good business lessons, I’m putting it here because it’s such an incredible and interesting read.
Richard Branson has done an enormous amount with his life and he’s documented it all in this thrilling book. From setting up his first business venture while at school (Student magazine) then Virgin Records, then Virgin Airline, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Cola and then his current focus – Virgin Galactic.
He goes into intimate (sometimes too intimate) details of his life and shares some very exciting stories, such as the dirty tricks Coca Cola adopted to get Virgin Cola out of business, the dirty tricks British Airways undertook to ensure that Virgin couldn’t restore concord and get it back into the skies and the time he nearly lost his life flying around the Earth in a hot air balloon.
This was a great book and I think you’ll enjoy it, too.

It’s not often I write product reviews. I’m rarely compelled to rave about a product so much, but for Elite Niche Research I’ll make an exception.
